CREATIVE WRITING CLASSES AT THE RAINBOW ART CENTER IN DUNNELLON
P.J. Braley retired and turned her lifelong attention to detail to creating a new world. Circumstances brought her back to her home state with thoughts in her head and the time to do something about them.
Citrus Writers was fortunate to catch her unaware and capitalize on her organizational skills, imagination, and drive.
As president, and now past president, of the group, she has given a number of presentations not only to the members but also to the public.
The Rainbow Art Center in Dunnellon is a sterling example of handmade jewelry, a bedrock example of precious stones and glass, and the quintessential art gallery for artists of all styles and mediums. The volunteers and artists who are involved recognize that fine art is best shared and best shared within a community. As a result, they offer classes and opportunities for other artists to share their specialties.
It was with great pleasure that Citrus Writers of Florida was approached to share the Fine Art of Writing.
P.J. Braley, Paula, was the first in a series of speakers. She presented Getting Started and introduced the all-essential narrative arc in her talk on September 23rd at the Rainbow Art Center’s new location, 20804 W. Pennsylvania Ave, in Dunnellon.
There were eight attendees—the space is intimate—who were enthusiastic and pleased with the class.
The next presentation in the series will take place on Tuesday, October 21. Mary Lu Scholl will be discussing how to create memorable and relatable characters (without alienating friends and family). Her two-hour class begins at 1 pm. Attendance is $10 to the Art Center. Registration can be made on the Art Center’s website, and walk-ins are allowed if space is available.
On November 18th, the series continues with three of our members sharing their experiences in getting started and staying motivated: It’s Never Too Late or Too Early to Start. Citrus County’s Barbara Cairns, a prolific author and literacy volunteer, Claire Chandler, a professional storyteller and multi-media presenter, and Andrew Denn, who is starting out and making a splash.
On the third Tuesday in December, Kathleen Small will discuss genres. What distinguishes one genre from another? Why does it make a difference to your writing? What do your readers expect in each genre? What are the factors that define a successful book? A multi-genre writer, Kathleen will answer all your questions.
The series of presentations is expected to carry into the new year, so stay tuned!
