February is a Month of Celebration!

One of my resolutions for 2026 was to live in the moment (I read that was a sign of being a successful adult.) Being successful was also defined as being happy.

For those reasons, I decided to celebrate every day. Being of limited imagination, I turned to the ubiquitous experts of the internet. There are way too many things to celebrate separately. Seriously, if I have to smile that much to demonstrate mature contentment…

My new plan is to combine specially designated days to save time. As for blithely abandoning the calendar, it’s the thought that counts, right?

Do a grouch a favor day is 2/16 and bartender day is 2/24. So, on the first day of February, find a grouchy bartender, pay him a compliment (2/6), and give him a bottle of wine (2/18).

Feb 15 is National Singles Awareness Day. Find a caregiver (2/16) and ask if they are single. If they are, I will pledge to donate a kidney should they need one (2/14 Organ Donor Day). I will then offer them Homemade Cabbage Soup (combining Homemade Soup 2/4 and Cabbage Day 2/17).

As a Random Act of Kindness (2/17) I will introduce a Golden Retriever (2/3) to a Groundhog (2/2) and attempt to fly a kite with them (2/8) in the spirit of Love Your Pet Day (2/20).

On 2/22, I will attempt to find a perfect Margarita. With my drink and a waterproof container of chips (2/24) that floats, I will blissfully enjoy my favorite book (2/9) in a public fountain until I fall asleep under an umbrella. (Public Sleeping Day 2/28, Umbrella Day 2/10 and Read in the Bathtub Day 2/9).

I’m exhausted just planning the month. I will probably need a break. After an icy plunge (Polar Bear Day is 2/27) I will indulge in Pizza and Banana Bread (2/9 and 2/23). The Banana Bread will have Dark Chocolate (2/1) and Pistachios (2/26) for extra protein (2/27), at a Ukelele Bar ( 2/2).

You can’t have February without Valentine’s Day, but besides romance, it is also a day to celebrate friendship. If I send you an ecard (2/27) with a picture of a

Chocolate Souffle, made with Nutella, topped with gumdrops and Frozen Yogurt (2/14, 2/28, 2/3, 2/15, 2/6) I am sharing my joy, not taunting you.

Food being what it is, a reward (sweet) and a curse (weight gain and indigestion) it is incomprehensible how often it comes up. On 2/7, I will order Fettuccini Alfredo for dinner, with Carrot cake (2/7) Muffins (2/20) and a rose on the table (2/7). After that, I will need medical intervention, Women Physician’s Day is 2/3, appropriate as 2/11 is Women and Girls in Science Day. She will counsel me on Eating Right Day (2/25)

There are others, Presidents and political activists, Clam Chowder and Sticky Buns. Just fit them in where it seems appropriate. Looking forward to March with both anticipation and dread.

About the author Mary Lu Scholl

Like many authors, I started writing at a very young age. When did I get serious (so to speak?) When I kissed the Blarney Stone. It was harrowing but worth it. My Irish family has always had storytellers and I’m the latest incarnation.

I’ve lived in many places and climates and am now living in Paradise – West Central Florida.

My wildly successful series – Trailer Park Travails – has probably been popular because of write-what-you-know. Am I a curmudgeon? Probably close… Patty – my main character – is me. Hopefully I’m a little better adjusted, but many of the situations my hapless amateur detective gets into are very much mine!

I hope you enjoy reading them as much as I have enjoyed writing them and sharing them with you. Find her books at the link below!
