March in Central Florida: When even the Pollen Can’t Ruin Paradise (Much)

Well, howdy there, folks. March in central Florida is when the good Lord turns down the heat to somethin’ downright pleasant. Azaleas are bloomin’ wild in pink and purple, the air’s got that fresh orange-blossom hint. The thermometer’s sittin’ pretty in the mid-70s with a breeze keepin’ things comfortable.

Around Inverness or Ocala way, it’s near perfect. There is sunshine so bright your shades earn their keep, and you can step outside without meltin’ or fightin’ off no-see-ums. Festivals are poppin’ too. Strawberries, shortcake piled high, along with boiled peanuts that taste like home. Life moves slow and sweet round here. Just like a gator on a cool mornin’.

Of course, the pollen’s out in force. It’s dustin’ everything yellow and turnin’ sneezes into full-body events. Spring breakers are rollin’ in, askin’ for the “real Florida” while the locals just smile and point to the bait shop. Saw one fella hook a bass and he got really excited. He ended up swimmin’ with it. Folks chuckled and tossed him a line. Then went right back to their sweet tea.

Grapefruit League games are buzzin’ up the road, but I’d rather sit on the porch with a cold sweet tea. Just watchin’ palm fronds sway and listenin’ to the birds. Here’s to March down here! Winter’s gone, flowers are showin’ off, and for a spell, everything feels just right. Even if your sinuses are prayin’ for mercy.

Y’all take it easy now, hear? And if you see me fishin’, mum’s the word.
